Since my last draft, I have started a new interactive site that will hopefully become my final outcome. My aim is to create an interactive site that presents a range of information about ocean wave energy in a visually interesting and clear way. In the research I’ve done, I’ve found that the information out there on this subject right now tends to either be very dense, technical and not very accessible, or a sales pitch by a company developing new technology and searching for financial backers. However, I think that the potential that exists in wave power is a really important and interesting subject, and I’d like to present the basics of this field in a way that viewers would come away with a better understanding of what wave energy is and some of the developments that are happening with it right now. I think we’re reaching a point where we’ll be seeing a lot more on this type of energy in the near future, and a general understanding of what exactly it is and what it entails will be very important as we make decisions about the future of energy production.
Here is the start of the site I’m working on.
Click this screenshot to view the interactive pdf I created as a follow-up to my video. It’s a work in progress, so only the links for Hawaii and the UK contain content right now.
I’m now in the process of finding a direction to take it from here, my main goals are to produce something that communicates the potential and global scale of this technology. It will hopefully change quite a bit from this draft…
This is a screenshot of my work in progress. This week’s assignment is to create some sort of user experience that further focuses our editorial voice. I’ve decided to focus on raising awareness of the potential of wave energy technology, and how it’s beginning to be implemented across the globe.
I’m currently working on an interactive pdf, in which the user can click on various sites on the map to learn more about the projects and technologies that are being developed there. I’m using some of the footage from my video project as a moving background for the interactive map.
Here is the short video I made last week centered on my new focus of the potential of wave energy.
